Five Animals Adopted at Vizag Zoo's Animal Adoption Programme

Five Animals Adopted at Vizag Zoo's Animal Adoption Programme

There is a zoo in Visakhapatnam, India, called the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park.

The zoo lets people 'adopt' animals, which means paying money to help take care of them.

A woman named V. Nishkala Nakshatra adopted three animals to celebrate her birthday.

She adopted a spotted deer, a star tortoise and a meerkat for one year.

A family from Uttar Pradesh also adopted a red-necked wallaby for one year and a leopard for one month.

Together, the visitors gave ₹82,000 to help look after five zoo animals.

The zoo says the programme lets individuals, families, schools, organisations and companies support wildlife conservation.

Adopters get some special privileges too.

People who donate can also receive a tax benefit for their kindness.
