Supreme Court Declines Plea on Amritpal Singh's NSA Detention, Directs High Court
A leader named Amritpal Singh, who is also a Member of Parliament, is in jail.
He was arrested a while ago and is being held under a special law.
Even though he is in jail, people voted for him to represent them.
He asked the country's highest court, the Supreme Court, to let him out, saying it's unfair because he can't do his job as a leader.
The Supreme Court said he should first ask a different court, the High Court, to decide.
They also asked that other court to make a decision quickly, within about six weeks.
Amritpal Singh and his friends were also involved in a situation where the jail's head was arrested for giving them things like internet devices they weren't supposed to have.
The Supreme Court refused to hear MP Amritpal Singh's plea challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).
The Court directed Amritpal Singh to first move the jurisdictional High Court regarding his detention.
A bench requested the High Court to conclude proceedings on his case within six weeks.
Amritpal Singh contends his detention violates his fundamental rights and those of his constituents.
The jail superintendent was arrested for allegedly providing unauthorized internet-accessing gadgets to Amritpal Singh and other inmates.
