De Villiers agrees with Gambhir on batting orders
After India won the ODI series against South Africa, their coach, Gautam Gambhir, said that batting orders are not very important in one-day cricket.
He believes teams should stick to a set plan.
Former South African player Ab de Villiers agreed with Gambhir but said that teams can be a bit creative with their batting order.
He thinks the batting lineup can be divided into three parts: the top three or four batsmen, the next two or three, and the tailenders.
De Villiers believes teams can mix and match these groups to be more creative in their batting approach.
He also praised India's consistent performance in the T20 format, attributing it to the depth of Indian cricket.
Gautam Gambhir believes batting orders are overrated in ODIs except for the opening combination.
Ab de Villiers agrees with Gambhir to a certain extent.
De Villiers enjoys a flexible batting lineup in ODIs but stresses the need for defined roles.
He suggests dividing the batting order into three segments: top 3-4, 5-6, and tailenders.
Teams can be creative with right and left-hand combinations and situational batting.
