China to Resume Seafood Imports from Japan After Ban
China and Japan have agreed that China will start buying seafood from Japan again.
China had stopped buying the seafood because they were worried about slightly radioactive water being released from a damaged nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan.
Officials from both countries met and agreed on some technical details, including checking the seafood for safety, so China will start buying seafood from Japan after a while.
China will resume importing Japanese seafood after a two-year ban.
The ban was due to concerns about wastewater released from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
The agreement was reached in Beijing on Wednesday.
Exports will start after China completes necessary procedures.
The agreement includes inspection and certification of seafood for radioactive substances.
