Embankment Construction Begins to Protect Teestapally from Mahananda Erosion

Embankment Construction Begins to Protect Teestapally from Mahananda Erosion

The Bengal irrigation department is building a long wall called an embankment to protect a new village named Teestapally from the Mahananda river.

This river has been causing problems like flooding and erosion, which can damage homes and force people to move.

The new village was created after about 500 people were moved from two other villages, Chamakdangi and Laltong, which were also threatened by flooding and erosion from the Teesta river.

Some people, like a local politician named Sikha Chatterjee, think that instead of moving the villages, the government should have cleaned the Teesta river or chosen different places for the new village.

However, the embankment is now being built to make sure the new village is safe from the Mahananda river's problems.

Local leaders are happy about this project because it will help keep the village safe from flooding and erosion.
