Western Officials Say Russia’s Ukraine War Losses Exceed Recruitment

Western officials say Russia is losing more soldiers in Ukraine than it can replace.

They estimate the monthly gap is about 6,000 people.

Russia is still recruiting around 1,000 people every day.

Officials say Russia has increased attacks on Ukrainian civilians and energy facilities.

They believe these attacks are meant to weaken Ukraine’s morale before winter.

Another large mobilisation could cause political and economic problems for Russia.

Officials also say Russia has threatened the United Kingdom but probably wants to avoid a direct fight with NATO.

They warn that cyberattacks or attacks by proxies could still happen.
