Assam, UP Update Voter Lists
In Assam, India, the electoral office has found that many people who have died or moved are still on the voter list.
They won't be removed until people officially ask for it.
The office wants everyone to check the list and tell them if someone should be removed or moved.
They have until January 22 to do this.
Right now, there are about 2.52 crore voters in Assam.
The final list will be ready on February 10.
In Uttar Pradesh, the draft electoral rolls will be published on December 31, with about 12.55 crore voters expected.
People whose names are deleted can reapply from January 1 to 31.
The Election Commission is also inviting objections to the inclusion of names in the draft electoral roll during this period.
Additionally, Uttar Pradesh has increased the number of polling stations to 1,77,516, an increase of 15,030, to accommodate the growing number of voters.
The draft electoral roll at the new polling stations will be published on January 6, 2026.
Assam has identified 4,78,992 deceased and 5,23,680 shifted voters but will only process them after formal applications are received.
Uttar Pradesh will publish its draft electoral rolls on December 31, with about 12.55 crore voters expected.
In UP, about 2.89 crore names will be deleted compared to the pre-SIR tally, and those affected can reapply from January 1 to 31.
Citizens in both states are urged to check the voter lists and submit forms for corrections or objections.
The final electoral roll in Assam will be published on February 10, while UP's objection period ends on January 31, and the draft electoral roll at new polling stations will be published on January 6, 2026.
