ITGOA Urges Finance Minister to Expedite ACIT Promotions
The Income Tax Gazetted Officers’ Association (ITGOA) has written to the Union Finance Minister to speed up the promotion process for Assistant Commissioners of Income Tax (ACIT) for the year 2024.
They say the proposal was sent to the UPSC in 2025 and all requirements were met, but the promotions are still not scheduled.
This delay is causing problems for officers, including those who joined in 2014, and could affect their future promotions.
The ITGOA is worried that this delay might demoralize officers, especially when the department is facing big changes like a new Income Tax Act.
They want the promotions to happen this year to avoid further issues.
ITGOA seeks urgent intervention from the Union Finance Minister for timely DPC scheduling for ACIT promotions.
Proposal for DPC was forwarded to UPSC on September 12, 2025, and all observations were complied with.
Delay in DPC scheduling raises concerns about promotions not being finalized within the current year.
Prolonged seniority-related litigation has led to ad-hoc promotions since 2014, causing career stagnation.
Delay affects Direct Recruit IRS officers from the 2014 batch onwards, impacting future promotions.
