Fadnavis Sets Ten-Year Goal to Make Mumbai Slum-Free
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Mumbai should become free of slums in about ten years.
The government plans to rebuild several areas together instead of treating each building separately.
Dharavi is one of the main areas included in the plan.
The Dharavi project is expected to provide 10,000 rehabilitation homes by January 2029.
Old MHADA housing colonies and BEST bus depots are also planned for redevelopment.
New bus depots could include shops, homes, museums, sports grounds, and recreation spaces.
The state also wants better roads, ports, airports, and technology hubs across Maharashtra.
These projects are intended to create jobs and support economic growth.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Mumbai aims to become slum-free within the next decade through cluster-based redevelopment.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project, MHADA colony renewal, and modernisation of BEST depots are central to the plan.
Dharavi’s project targets 10,000 rehabilitation homes by January 2029, according to Fadnavis.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region plan aims to grow the economy to $1.5 trillion by 2047 through urbanisation, technology, and infrastructure.
Fadnavis also outlined projects including the Uttan–Virar sea link, Vadhavan Port expansion, New Nagpur, and a new Pune airport.
