Maharashtra to Fund AC Rakes for Mumbai Rail
The Maharashtra government is going to pay half the cost of buying 268 new air-conditioned trains for Mumbai's local train service.
Instead of borrowing money, the state will use its own budget to pay its share, which is about 2413 crore rupees.
The government made this decision after talking with the central government, which will also contribute money.
The plan was approved, and now it's waiting for final approval from the central government.
This change means the state is directly investing in improving the city's train system.
The Maharashtra government will fund 50% of the cost for 268 new AC rakes for Mumbai Suburban Rail Services.
The state government decided to exclude the purchase of the new AC rakes from the Mumbai Urban Transport Project III and III-A.
Instead of taking out a loan, the state will allocate Rs 2413 crore from its annual budget.
The cabinet committee on infrastructure approved the proposal and forwarded it to the central government.
The central government will also provide its share of the funding, though it may take a few months.
