Wheat sowing nears completion, crop outlook positive
India has almost finished planting wheat for the winter season.
The crops look healthy and are expected to do well.
More than 73% of the wheat fields have special seeds that can handle bad weather.
The government thinks there will be enough wheat for their programs and that prices will stay stable.
Other crops like chickpeas and rapeseed-mustard are also doing well.
Farmers will start harvesting these crops from March onwards.
India has nearly completed wheat sowing for the 2025-26 rabi season, with 32.26 million hectares sown as of December 29, 2025.
More than 73% of the sown area has been planted with climate-resilient and bio-fortified seed varieties.
The wheat crop is in excellent condition, and no problems have been reported from wheat-growing areas.
Sowing of pulses and oilseeds has been completed, and rice planting will continue until January-end in southern India.
A strong wheat harvest will ensure adequate supplies for government welfare programmes and help keep prices in check.
