BJP Defends State Song Order, Accuses Speaker of Religious Promotion
A BJP leader in Tamil Nadu said it is acceptable to sing the state song before or after India’s national songs.
He said all three songs are important.
He also asked people not to turn the singing order into a controversy.
The leader then criticized Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar.
He said Prabhakar was trying to promote Christianity through his public role.
This criticism came after Prabhakar attended an anti-abortion rally in Chennai.
The BJP leader said people can follow their own religion but should not use a public office to promote it.
He asked Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to advise the Speaker.
BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said Tamil Thai Vazhthu, the national song and the national anthem may be sung in any order.
He said Tamil Nadu’s state song and India’s national symbols are equally important and should not become a source of controversy.
Thirupathy accused Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar of using his position to promote Christianity.
The accusation followed Prabhakar’s participation as chief guest at an anti-abortion National March for Life in Chennai on August 8 and 9.
Thirupathy urged Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to advise Prabhakar against actions he said could affect the TVK-led government.
