Mini Mathur Says Pregnancy Cost MTV and Indian Idol Opportunities

Mini Mathur said pregnancy affected two important television jobs.

She had worked as an MTV VJ for five years before becoming pregnant with her first child, Vivaan.

She said MTV did not renew her contract because the channel thought VJs should not be pregnant.

Later, she was expecting her second child, Sairah, while Indian Idol season five was being planned.

She said the show’s makers believed viewers would not accept a pregnant host.

Mini felt sad and disappointed because she thought her skills should have mattered more.

She was later invited back for season six, but said she no longer wanted to return.

One report says she eventually hosted season six in 2012, creating a discrepancy with her account.

She has continued working in television, films and streaming and won The Alliance.
