Netanyahu to Attend UNGA Despite Arrest Calls
Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of Israel, said he will go to New York in September to speak at the United Nations.
Some people in New York, especially a mayoral candidate named Zohran Mamdani, want him arrested because of Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Netanyahu says he will still go and will talk about the truth.
Mamdani has called him a war criminal and wants U.S. officials to enforce an international court order.
Netanyahu says the court is not real and that New York officials can’t arrest him.
The two sides have very different views on what should happen.
Netanyahu confirmed he will attend the UN General Assembly in New York in September.
He said he would go despite repeated calls by Zohran Mamdani to arrest him over Israel’s Gaza campaign.
Netanyahu said he would “speak the truth” and challenge Mamdani’s criticism, calling the mayor a “hate‑spewing elected official.”
Mamdani has labeled Netanyahu a “war criminal” and urged U.S. authorities to enforce an ICC warrant if he visits New York.
Netanyahu dismissed the ICC case as illegitimate and said New York officials lack the authority to arrest him.
