Car Nicobar Air Base gets major runway upgrade
The Car Nicobar Air Base has received a big upgrade to its runway.
This makes it longer and wider, so more and bigger planes can use it.
The base is very important because it helps keep an eye on a busy sea route called the Malacca Strait.
Soon, fighter jets like the Su-30 MKI and Mirage will start using the new runway for practice and to be ready for any problems.
The upgrade also means the base can do more tests with missiles and be ready to help quickly if needed.
This is all part of making India stronger and safer in the eastern part of the Indian Ocean.
Car Nicobar Air Base's runway has been upgraded to 2.7 km in length and 43 m in width.
The upgraded base will be inaugurated today by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
The base will support increased military readiness and rapid deployment in the eastern Indian Ocean.
Su-30 MKI fighter jets will begin strategic operations from the base, with Mirage fighters to follow.
The improvements will enhance India's deterrence and surveillance capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region.
