Key Updates for ITR Filing FY24-25: What You Need
The government has updated income tax return (ITR) forms for this year.
If you have certain investments, like stocks, and made less than a specific amount, you can use a simpler form.
Rules for how taxes are calculated on certain investments have changed.
If a company buys back its shares, the tax responsibility shifts.
Also, if you run a business, you'll need to report how quickly you pay small businesses.
Finally, you might not have to report your assets and liabilities unless they're worth a certain amount.
ITR-1 can be used if you have long-term capital gains from listed securities up to Rs 125,000.
Changes in capital gains tax rates require reporting gains before and after July 23, 2024.
Tax on share buyback is now the individual taxpayer's responsibility, starting October 1, 2024.
Payments to MSMEs must be disclosed; payments beyond 45 days are not deductible.
The threshold for reporting assets and liabilities has increased to INR 10 million.
