Louvre to Raise Non-EU Entry Fees
The Louvre Museum in Paris is going to charge more money for people visiting from outside the European Union.
Starting in 2026, these visitors will have to pay 32 euros instead of 22 euros.
The museum says this extra money will help them fix things and make the museum safer.
Last month, some thieves stole very expensive jewellery from the Louvre, which showed that the museum needs better security.
Some people who work at the museum are not happy about this change because they think it is unfair to charge different prices based on where people are from.
The Louvre will raise entry fees for non-EU tourists to 32 euros starting January 14, 2026, a 45% increase.
The additional revenue, up to 20 million euros annually, will fund structural upgrades and security improvements.
In 2024, the Louvre had 8.7 million visitors, with 69% being foreign tourists, primarily from the U.S. and China.
A recent theft of $102 million worth of jewellery highlighted security equipment deficiencies.
Labour unions criticize the decision, calling it discriminatory.
