Northern Lights Could Be Visible in Several US States
The Northern Lights, also called the aurora borealis, are a beautiful light show in the sky caused by particles from the sun hitting the Earth's atmosphere.
These particles cause colorful lights like green, red, and purple.
This week, several US states might be able to see the lights!
The best places to see them are usually near the Arctic Circle, but this time some northern US states have a good chance.
To see them, go to a dark place away from city lights and look between 10 p.m.
and 2 a.m.
local time.
Sometimes, there might also be brief disruptions to radio signals.
The Northern Lights may be visible in several northern US states due to geomagnetic activity.
The Kp index reached 5 on Tuesday, allowing visibility in parts of Wyoming, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York.
On Wednesday, the Kp index is predicted to be 4.
Alaska and northern Canada are the top locations for viewing.
Optimal viewing time is between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time.
