Pune Police Ban Public Parading of Accused After Katraj Incident

Pune Police Ban Public Parading of Accused After Katraj Incident

The police in the city of Pune, India, were told to be kind and respectful to people they arrest.

This happened after a video went online showing some young people being made to feel embarrassed and humiliated by police at a police station in Katraj.

Many people saw the video and were upset.

A group that protects people's rights, called the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission, decided to look into what happened.

So the Police Commissioner sent a message to all police officers reminding them of the rules.

The rules say officers must not show arrested people off in public, make them do exercises like sit-ups, tie them up, or treat them badly.

People who are arrested must be treated fairly from the moment they are caught until they go to court.

Police officers who break these rules can face punishment from their department and even legal action.

Some people who live in the Katraj area are also asking the police to keep a well-liked officer, Inspector Patil, at their police station instead of moving him to a new post.
