Gandhis Charged in National Herald Case
Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and five other people have been charged with criminal conspiracy and cheating in the National Herald case.
The Delhi Police filed a report against them, saying they wrongly took control of a company called Associated Journals Limited (AJL).
This company used to publish a newspaper called the National Herald.
The police say that through another company called Young Indian, where the Gandhis own most of the shares, they got control of AJL, which has properties worth about Rs 2,000 crore.
The case started in 2012 when someone said the Congress party cheated in taking over AJL.
The Congress party says they helped AJL by giving it a loan, which was later turned into shares.
The court will decide on this case on December 16.
The police did not inform the accused about the report and challenged the court's order to do so.
The Congress party says the government is trying to harass them, but the government says they are strengthening the case based on new evidence.
Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and five others charged with criminal conspiracy and cheating in the National Herald case.
Allegations involve the fraudulent takeover of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) through Young Indian, where the Gandhis hold 76% of the shares.
The FIR is based on a complaint from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and covers the period from 2008 to 2024.
The case dates back to 2012 when BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint alleging cheating and breach of trust.
Delhi police challenged the court's order to inform the accused about the FIR, and the sessions court stayed the order till December 15.
