PMC Stops Sending Security Guards as Police Witnesses
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stopped sending its security guards to act as independent witnesses for the police.
This is because the guards are needed to protect civic properties, and their frequent absence due to police duty was causing security issues.
The PMC has 1,556 security guards, mostly contract hires, who protect offices, cultural halls, gardens, schools, hospitals, and other civic properties.
The guards were often chosen as witnesses because they were nearby when a crime occurred.
However, this meant they were away from their duties, and it was difficult to find them later if they left their jobs.
Now, the PMC has told its departments not to make the guards available for police duty.
