India-EU and India-US Trade Talks Progress
India is having important talks with both the European Union (EU) and the United States (US) to make big trade deals.
These deals are called Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and Bilateral Trade Agreements (BTA).
The talks with the EU were led by Piyush Goyal from India and Maroš Šefčovič from the EU.
They met in New Delhi and discussed how to make the deal fair and good for both sides.
They talked about things like selling goods, making rules for where products come from, and making sure the deal is good for the environment.
The EU wants India to lower taxes on things like cars and medical devices, while India wants to sell more clothes, medicines, and steel to the EU.
Both sides are working hard to finish the deal soon.
The EU is becoming a big market for Indian goods, especially with high taxes from the US.
India's exports to countries like Germany and Spain are growing, showing that these talks are important for both sides.
At the same time, India is also talking to the US about a trade deal.
The US team, led by Rick Switzer and Brendan Lynch, is in New Delhi for negotiations.
They are working to finalize the first part of the trade pact, which includes goods, services, investment, and some agricultural items.
The US is India's largest trading partner, and both countries want to increase their trade to $500 billion by 2030.
The talks are important because the US has put high taxes on Indian goods, which has made it harder for India to sell things to the US.
Both sides are hopeful that they can reach a deal soon.
India and the EU held discussions to expedite the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with both sides committed to an early conclusion.
Technical discussions were held from 3-9 December 2025 in New Delhi, covering key areas like market access and sustainable development.
The EU is seeking duty cuts in automobiles and medical devices, while India aims to make its goods more competitive in the EU market.
India and the US are progressing towards a bilateral trade agreement, with a US delegation in New Delhi for negotiations.
Both sides are working to finalize the first phase of the trade pact, which includes goods, services, investment, and select agricultural items.
