India's FDI via Approval Route Surges in Q1, Driven by Cyprus

Imagine India is like a big store, and foreign companies are like shoppers wanting to invest their money to help the store grow.

Most of the time, these shoppers can just come in and invest without asking anyone for permission, like using an 'automatic door.'

This is called the 'automatic route.'

But for some special parts of the store, like defense or things related to atomic energy, shoppers need to get a special pass from the store manager, which is like the government approval.

Recently, a lot more shoppers got these special passes, and the money they invested through this 'approval route' went up a lot, especially from shoppers from a place called Cyprus.

This meant less money was spent by shoppers buying already existing items in the store, like shares of companies.

However, the total money invested in the store still went up quite a bit, mainly because of the big increase in investments through the 'automatic door.'
