Rupee Falls Against Dollar Amid Market Weakness
The Indian rupee weakened against the U.S. dollar.
This means it took more rupees to buy one dollar.
This happened because the stock market in India was down, and some investors were taking their money out.
Also, interest rates in the U.S. went up, making the dollar stronger.
However, the dollar's value against other currencies decreased slightly, which helped to soften the rupee's fall.
The market is expected to remain volatile.
The rupee fell by 21 paise, closing at 85.63 against the U.S. dollar on May 20, 2025.
This decline was attributed to weak domestic markets and rising U.S. treasury yields.
Foreign fund outflows also contributed to the rupee's depreciation.
The U.S. dollar index declined, providing some support to the rupee.
The Sensex and Nifty also fell by approximately 1% on May 20, 2025.
