Congress Leaders Oppose MGNREGA Repeal
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sachin Sawant spoke at a convention for MGNREGA workers.
They said the government wants to replace MGNREGA with a new law called VB-G RAM G Act.
They think this new law is bad because it will take away workers' rights and give more power to the central government and contractors.
They compared it to the 'three black farm laws' that were repealed after farmers protested.
The Congress party is running a 45-day campaign to stop the repeal of MGNREGA and bring it back in its original form.
They also said the new law is trying to remove Mahatma Gandhi's name from the scheme.
The leaders even worked alongside NREGA workers to show their support.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sachin Sawant opposed the repeal of MGNREGA and the introduction of the VB-G RAM G Act.
They claimed the new law will centralize decision-making, benefit contractors and bureaucracy, and threaten rural democracy by undermining Gram Panchayats' powers.
Gandhi compared the VB-G RAM G Act to the 'three black farm laws' that were repealed after protests.
The Congress party launched a 45-day campaign called 'MGNREGA Bachao Sangram' to restore the original MGNREGA.
Kharge and Sawant promised to fight against the name change during the upcoming Budget session, starting January 28, and worked alongside NREGA workers to show their support.
