DRI Intercepts Pakistani Rock Salt Smuggled Through UAE
Imagine some salt from Pakistan was trying to sneak into India, but the customs officers caught it.
This salt, called Khewra pink rock salt, is special to Pakistan.
Because of some rules, India isn't supposed to get stuff directly from Pakistan.
So, someone tried to send it through another place, the UAE, to hide where it came from.
The officers found a lot of this salt, worth a lot of money, and are now checking if others have done the same thing.
This is all because India has a ban on importing things from Pakistan.
DRI officials intercepted 47 containers of rock salt from Pakistan, imported via the UAE.
The consignments weighed 1,311 tonnes and were worth approximately ₹1.6 crore.
The rock salt was from Khewra, Pakistan, a geographical indication of that country.
Imports from Pakistan are prohibited under current foreign trade policy.
DRI is investigating previous shipments and has intensified its vigil.
