Supreme Court Dismisses Contempt Plea on Senior Advocate Designation
The Supreme Court recently dismissed a complaint made by an advocate named Sanjay Dubey.
He had accused the Delhi High Court of not following the Supreme Court's earlier orders about giving special titles to senior lawyers.
The Supreme Court said that most high courts are already following the new rules and that the Delhi High Court will likely comply soon.
They also advised lawyers not to file unnecessary complaints.
The complaint mentioned that 302 lawyers who were previously rejected or deferred were not reconsidered, and a senior lawyer, Sudhir Nandrajog, had resigned from the committee responsible for these decisions.
The Supreme Court dismissed a contempt plea alleging non-compliance with its April judgment on senior advocate designation in the Delhi High Court.
The petitioner, Advocate Sanjay Dubey, claimed that the Delhi High Court had not reprocessed the cases of 302 advocates rejected or deferred in the 2024 senior designation cycle.
The Supreme Court Bench, headed by CJI Surya Kant, advised members of the Bar not to generate unnecessary litigation.
The apex court expressed confidence that the Delhi High Court would comply with the judgment without inordinate delay.
The petition highlighted the resignation of senior advocate Sudhir Nandrajog from the Permanent Committee, questioning the committee's legitimacy.
