Delhi Court Orders Legal Aid for Celina Jaitly's Detained Brother in UAE
A court in Delhi is helping the sister of a former Indian Army officer who is stuck in another country called the United Arab Emirates.
The officer, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, has been there for over a year.
His sister, Celina Jaitly, asked the court to help her brother get a lawyer.
The court said the Indian office in the UAE should give a list of lawyers to Major Jaitly.
He or his family will have to pay for the lawyer, but if any lawyer is willing to help for free, that should also be told to him.
The court will check on this again on January 22.
Earlier, the court had asked the government to help Celina talk to her brother and get updates about him.
Delhi High Court directs Indian Consulate to provide a list of local lawyers for Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, detained in UAE.
Major Jaitly's sister, Celina Jaitly, requested legal representation for her brother during a chamber hearing.
Court clarifies that the detained person or his family will bear the costs of legal representation.
If any lawyer is willing to waive professional charges, this information should also be conveyed to Major Jaitly.
The matter is listed for further hearing on January 22, with the court ensuring continued consular access and communication facilitation.
