Pakistan Fires Into Afghanistan Amid Peace Talks
Two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan, are trying to make peace and sent teams to talk in a city called Istanbul.
On Thursday, while these important talks were happening, Afghanistan said that Pakistan shot weapons, like mortars, into Afghanistan, hitting places where people live.
Afghan officials showed videos of people running away.
Even though Pakistan fired, Afghanistan chose not to shoot back.
This is because they didn't want to ruin the peace talks and keep more people from getting hurt.
There have been other fights before, and these talks are important to stop them.
Pakistan believes Afghanistan is letting bad guys hide there, but Afghanistan says that's not true.
This shooting makes things tense even as they try to be peaceful.
Pakistan violated a ceasefire by firing light and heavy weapons, including mortars, into Afghanistan on Thursday.
The firing reportedly targeted civilian areas in Afghanistan's border town of Spin Boldak, with videos showing civilians fleeing.
Afghan forces did not retaliate to the Pakistani firing.
The incident occurred just before delegations from both countries were scheduled to meet for peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey.
This follows previous ceasefire violations by Pakistan, including an air strike last month, and ongoing tensions over accusations of sheltering militants.
