NGT Investigates Gutkha, Pan Masala Plastic Waste Violations
The NGT, a special court, is looking into whether companies making gutkha and pan masala are breaking rules about plastic waste.
The Citizens Foundation complained that these companies are using plastic packaging that isn't allowed.
The NGT has asked the government agencies in charge of pollution to explain what's happening.
These companies were told to use different packaging, and if they didn't, they might have to pay fines or even close their factories.
The NGT will hear more about this on September 26, 2025.
NGT issued notices to authorities regarding alleged plastic waste violations by gutkha and pan masala manufacturers.
The Citizens Foundation filed a petition alleging non-compliance with Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Manufacturers are accused of using banned plastic sachets and polymers for packaging.
CPCB and DPCC have been asked to respond by the NGT.
Next hearing is scheduled for September 26, 2025.
