India Needs Structural Transformation To Reach $2 Trillion Exports

India wants to export $2 trillion worth of goods and services by FY31.

Its exports reached $863 billion in FY26, compared with $468 billion in 2014-15.

An official said India must make much bigger changes to reach the new goal.

These changes include improving factories, supply chains and trade systems.

India should aim to be a reliable manufacturing partner for other countries.

The official said countries are using tariffs, technology controls and mineral restrictions for strategic reasons.

China’s share of global manufacturing rose from about 3% in 1990 to nearly 28% in 2024.

India was encouraged to build capabilities in critical minerals, electronic parts and medicines.

Businesses were also urged to use free trade agreements and expand into more markets.
