India’s Smart Border to Link High-Tech Security Across Borders
India wants to use technology to watch its borders more effectively.
The project is called Smart Border.
It will use drones, radars, cameras, sensors and computer systems.
These tools will send information to connected command centres.
Border forces and local authorities will be able to share information more quickly.
This could reduce the need for constant patrols in some areas.
The system is especially intended to address drone threats and difficult terrain.
Different border areas will receive different technology suited to their surroundings.
Police from 119 border districts are helping design the plan.
India’s Ministry of Home Affairs is launching a technology-driven command-and-control system for land-border management.
The Smart Border project will use drone radars, thermal cameras, AI-enabled surveillance and Integrated Border Management Systems.
The initial plan covers about 6,000 kilometers of international border with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The system will connect surveillance inputs and agencies through a proposed “Quadrangular Security Grid.”
Police from 119 border districts were asked to submit suggestions, with the grid expected to be confirmed within 1.5 years.
