Trump Secretly Swapped Planes in Catering Truck Over Iran Threat
Donald Trump is the President of the United States, and he traveled to a country called Turkiye to meet other leaders at a meeting called the NATO summit.
Newspapers say some people from Iran were threatening to hurt him.
Because of this threat, his security team made a secret plan to keep him safe.
Instead of riding on the big presidential plane that everyone could see, he was quietly carried in a catering truck, the kind that brings food to airplanes, and taken to a smaller military jet.
The big plane took off with news reporters on board, and everyone thought the President was on it, but he was not.
When the planes landed in Britain, he was secretly moved back to the big plane so it looked like he had flown on it the whole time.
The news reporters were not told about the secret plan, and some people say that put them in danger.
The White House said it uses every tool it has to protect the President from America's enemies.
Mr. Trump said he just followed the instructions of the Secret Service and the military, and that he faces many threats people do not know about.
Two senior US officials said Trump was secretly moved in a catering container and flown from Turkiye to Britain on a C-32A military jet because of a credible threat against him and Air Force One from Iran.
On July 8 at Ankara airport, Trump boarded the older Air Force One in view of cameras, then was whisked to the military jet via a catering truck on the opposite side of the plane.
At Mildenhall air base in the UK, Trump was secretly returned to the older Air Force One through a different entrance, making it appear he had flown on that jet.
Journalists traveling with Trump and some White House staff were not told about the switch and served as unwitting decoys aboard the older Air Force One.
Trump acknowledged the switch, saying the Secret Service and military ordered it over a threat from Iran, after initially saying the Qatar-donated 747 flew ahead so US troops could tour it.

Reason for the secret flight
White House Position
Trump initially said the Qatar-donated Boeing 747 flew ahead to Britain so US troops could tour it, and later said he simply followed instructions from the Secret Service and the military, who wanted him on a different plane.
Critics and Press
Reports say the switch was driven by a credible Iranian threat against Trump and Air Force One, and Trump's changing explanations suggest the original story was not the real reason.
Safety of journalists and staff
White House Position
The Secret Service has used decoy motorcades and flights in the past, and keeping travel details secret is a legitimate part of protecting the president.
Critics and Press
If the threat was credible, journalists and White House staff were placed at risk as unknowing decoys without being warned, and the White House was silent on why.
Deception of the public
White House Position
Decoy flights and secret movements are established practices used by the Secret Service for presidents before, and secrecy is a legitimate part of presidential protection.
Critics and Press
It was an unusual instance of the public being deceived about the president's whereabouts, and officials have not previously acknowledged that Trump was not where they claimed he was.
