Judge Blocks Pentagon’s Anthropic Supply Chain Risk Designation

Judge Blocks Pentagon’s Anthropic Supply Chain Risk Designation

Anthropic makes an AI system called Claude.

The Pentagon wanted to use Claude without special limits for military purposes.

Anthropic wanted rules against mass surveillance of Americans and fully autonomous weapons.

After Anthropic refused to remove those limits, the government labeled it a supply chain risk.

Anthropic sued, saying the government was punishing it for speaking about AI safety.

Judge Rita Lin said the government’s actions likely broke the law and the Constitution.

She temporarily stopped the government from enforcing the label and a related order against Claude.

This does not guarantee that Anthropic will receive a military contract.

The government may appeal, and the larger legal case is still continuing.
