CCTV Cameras at Lower Manair Dam Remain Nonfunctional
Cameras at Lower Manair Dam are not working.
Police used them to watch what was happening around the water.
Without them, it is harder for officers to keep track of people and incidents.
The dam has a police outpost that patrols the area day and night.
Police say they have rescued 310 people so far.
An officer tried to fix about 16 cameras, but the repairs did not work.
Police now hope to replace the cameras with help from philanthropists.
CCTV cameras installed around Lower Manair Dam have been out of service for many months.
The cameras were intended to help Lake Police monitor the dam and track people’s movements.
Police say the broken cameras hinder efforts to monitor attempted suicides, miscreants and other incidents.
A Lake Police outpost was established at the dam on October 10, 2017, with round-the-clock patrols.
Outpost in-charge B. Ramesh said repairs to about 16 cameras failed, and police plan to replace them with philanthropists’ support.
