History Will Remember Manmohan Singh Kindly: Sonia Gandhi
A very important court in India, called the Supreme Court, said that a former leader named Manmohan Singh did nothing wrong.
Some people had accused him of giving away coal blocks unfairly when he was prime minister.
The court agreed with the police investigators that the accusation was not true.
After this news, a leader named Sonia Gandhi wrote a big article in a newspaper.
She said that history will remember Dr Singh kindly as a quiet, gentle, but very important prime minister.
She said he was blamed unfairly by many people for many years, and called it a 'witch-hunt'.
She compared him to the current prime minister, Narendra Modi, and said Dr Singh was more honest.
She also listed good things Dr Singh did, like helping poor families get food, giving children the right to go to school, and letting people ask the government questions.
Sonia Gandhi believes that now people can see that Dr Singh was honest and did a great job for the country.
The Supreme Court on July 29, 2026 upheld the CBI's clean chit to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the alleged coal block allocation scam and set aside a summoning order against him.
Sonia Gandhi, in a column in The Indian Express, said history will remember Singh kindly as a quiet, gentle, but most consequential prime minister.
Gandhi described the campaign against Singh as a 'witch-hunt' coordinated by actors from the bureaucracy, media, judiciary, civil society, RSS and BJP.
She criticised Prime Minister Modi's February 8, 2017 Rajya Sabha remark that Singh knew 'the art of bathing with a raincoat on'.
She accused the Modi government of misusing agencies like the ED and CBI and defended Singh-era achievements including the Right to Education, MGNREGA, RTI and the Indo-US nuclear deal.
