Chandigarh Mayor Seeks Rs 1,000 Crore
The mayor of Chandigarh and other officials had a big meeting to talk about how to improve certain areas that were recently given to the city.
These areas don't have good roads, lights, or cleanliness, and the mayor said they need at least Rs 1,000 crore to make things better.
The mayor also got upset with the deputy mayor for taking credit for decisions made in the meeting.
They also talked about making rules for putting plants and railings outside houses and how to stop people from taking over public land.
The meeting passed four proposals quickly, but there are still many problems that need to be fixed, like garbage piles and illegal use of city land.
Chandigarh Mayor Amarjit Sidhu demanded Rs 1,000 crore from GMADA for the development of transferred sectors lacking basic amenities.
Councillors unanimously agreed that adequate funding is crucial for meaningful development and proper sanitation in these areas.
The mayor directed officials to hold a high-level meeting with GMADA to press the funding demand and consider excluding areas from the Municipal Corporation if funds are not provided.
A heated debate occurred between the mayor and deputy mayor over allegations of misconduct and favoritism in issuing tenders and work orders.
The Municipal Corporation decided to frame a policy for the installation of planters and railings in GMADA's new sectors and sought clarity on the responsibility for the anti-encroachment drive.
