Delhi PG Collapse Puts Basement Repairs and Oversight Under Scrutiny

A building used as a boys’ paying guest home collapsed in Delhi.

Seven people died, and 12 people were rescued from the rubble.

The basement had a long-standing water seepage problem.

A contractor was repairing that problem when the building collapsed.

Police are looking for the contractor to learn exactly how the work was done.

They have not yet proved that the repairs caused the collapse.

The building reportedly had no columns or beams and may have violated building rules.

Police, civic officials and courts are now investigating the collapse and checking other buildings.
