Dharavi Children Experience First WPL Match
Fifty schoolchildren from Dharavi, a neighborhood in Mumbai, got to watch a Women's Premier League cricket match live at DY Patil Stadium.
This was their first time seeing a professional sports game in person.
The trip was organized by the company in charge of redeveloping Dharavi.
The children were excited and inspired by seeing the cricket players up close.
Before this, some of the kids had only watched sports on TV.
Teachers said this experience helps children dream big and see what they can achieve.
The company has done similar trips before, like taking kids to watch a chess tournament and a football match featuring Lionel Messi.
50 schoolchildren from Dharavi attended a Women's Premier League match between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at DY Patil Stadium.
The outing was organized by Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd (NMDPL) as part of the Dharavi redevelopment project's sports-led initiatives.
This was the first live professional sports event for most of the children, who were inspired by seeing top athletes in action.
Teachers emphasized that such experiences broaden children's imagination and show them the possibilities when talent meets opportunity.
Previous initiatives included a chess championship with Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa and a football outing to watch Lionel Messi at Wankhede Stadium.
