Tripartite Talks on FMR, Border Fencing End in Status Quo
The Central Government, the Government of Manipur, and the United Naga Council (UNC) had a meeting in Imphal to talk about border fencing and the Free Movement Regime (FMR).
They agreed to keep things the same for now and will meet again in January 2026 to find a permanent solution.
The UNC also talked about how people are being treated unfairly by security agencies, and the government promised to look into it.
Earlier, there was a similar meeting in Delhi that didn't go well, and the UNC had even announced a trade embargo, but that was lifted after a few days.
Tripartite talks on border fencing and FMR were held in Imphal on December 23, 2025.
The parties agreed to maintain the status quo on border fencing until a permanent solution is found.
The next round of talks is scheduled for January 2026.
UNC raised concerns about 'unreasonable checking' by security agencies, and the government committed to addressing the issue.
Previous talks in Delhi ended in a deadlock, leading to a trade embargo by the UNC, which was later lifted.
