Begum Hazrat Mahal: The Rebel Queen of Awadh
Imagine a woman named Hazrat Mahal who started life with very little.
She became part of the royal family in a place called Awadh, India.
When the British took over Awadh, she got angry and decided to fight back.
She made her young son the new ruler and led an army against the British.
They even trapped the British soldiers inside a building for months!

Begum Hazrat Mahal, a former courtesan, led the 1857 rebellion against the British after Awadh was annexed.
She crowned her son, Birjis Qadr, ruler and declared herself regent, rallying forces across Lucknow.
Hazrat Mahal laid siege to Lucknow Residency, keeping the British at bay for ten months.
After the rebellion's defeat, she refused British offers and went into exile in Nepal with her son.
She died in Nepal in 1879, leaving a legacy of courage and inspiring future generations.
