India Auto Retail Hits Records as Festive Demand Builds

India Auto Retail Hits Records as Festive Demand Builds

People in India bought many more vehicles in September than they did a year earlier.

Passenger cars, two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles all recorded strong yearly growth.

Car sales reached a September record, and commercial vehicle sales passed one lakh for the first time in that month.

Electric vehicles made up a growing share of sales in several categories.

Tractor sales were the only major category to fall compared with August, which FADA linked to a later festive season and uneven monsoon.

FADA said demand has been strong in both rural and urban areas.

It expects vehicle sales to keep growing in October as the festive season continues.

It also said car dealers have more stock than its recommended level and that manufacturers should match deliveries to actual sales.
