BJP Seeks J&K Speaker’s Removal Amid Statehood Dispute
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had a disagreement during its meeting on Monday.
The BJP said it had submitted a notice to remove Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
The Speaker said the notice had to follow the Assembly’s normal voting procedure.
He also said it could not be discussed during Question Hour.
BJP lawmakers protested by entering the well of the House and raising slogans.
BJP leader Sunil Sharma said his party supports bringing statehood back to Jammu and Kashmir.
However, he said the BJP would not support discussions about Article 370, autonomy, or the pre-1953 political position.
The disagreement centers on language and references included in the government’s statehood resolution.
