CCI Adds Publicis India to Advertising Cartel Probe
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) decided to include TLG India, the Indian arm of the French company Publicis Groupe, in its investigation into possible price‑fixing among advertising agencies.
Publicis had argued that the probe wrongly named its global parent instead of its Indian subsidiary.
The CCI said it could investigate both the parent and the subsidiary.
The investigation covers big agencies like Publicis, WPP’s GroupM, Dentsu, and Omnicom, and looks at how they might have set advertising rates together.
If the CCI finds wrongdoing, the companies could face fines and the advertising market in India could change a lot.
CCI cleared the way to add TLG India to its advertising cartel probe.
The move resolved Publicis’s legal challenge that the investigation named the wrong entity.
CCI said it could investigate both Publicis Groupe and its Indian subsidiary under the Competition Act.
The probe covers major agencies such as Publicis, WPP’s GroupM, Dentsu, and Omnicom, alleging collusion on rates and discounts.
Potential penalties could reshape India’s advertising ecosystem.
