Salt Lake’s First Eateries Built A Lasting Food Culture

Salt Lake’s First Eateries Built A Lasting Food Culture

Salt Lake was once a quiet and sparsely developed township with very few places to eat.

Small restaurants and food shops helped change that.

Dan-Din’s is believed to have been the first restaurant there, serving Chinese food from 1985.

Mishra’s became famous for its food, bar and huge crowds.

Aahar helped make biryani more available, while Sweet ’N’ Sour was an early home-delivery pioneer.

Gangotri became especially known for dosas and its community-minded offers.

Some old favourites, such as Momo Hut, Caprice and The Scoop, have shut down.

Even so, many former customers still remember these eateries and return to them or the places where they once stood.
