Bangladesh Weighs Pax Silica Opportunity Amid China Technology Ties

Bangladesh is considering closer cooperation with a United States-led technology group called Pax Silica.

The group works on artificial intelligence, computer chips and important minerals.

Bangladesh has also become an observer in a China-backed organization called the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.

This places Bangladesh between two competing technology networks.

Joining Pax Silica could help the country attract new opportunities and reduce its reliance on garment exports.

However, Bangladesh currently has limited technology skills and infrastructure.

Problems such as unreliable electricity and limited research could make participation difficult.

Working more closely with either side could also reduce Bangladesh’s freedom to choose its own technology partners.

The country must decide how to gain benefits while protecting its strategic independence.
