Pargat Singh Pledges Teamwork as New Punjab Congress Chief
Pargat Singh has been chosen to lead the Congress party in Punjab.
He said he wants the party to work together as a team.
He described his role as being like a hockey full-back, who supports teammates from behind.
Singh said important decisions should be made together and should focus on Punjab.
He praised outgoing party chief Raja Warring for his work.
The party has disagreements within its Punjab branch, and elections are expected early next year.
Singh also said he believes democracy needs to be strengthened in the country.
Pargat Singh said he would serve as a team player and give prominence to senior party members.
He said decisions would be made unanimously with Punjab’s interests in mind.
Singh was appointed Punjab Congress president on Friday, replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who had held the post for over 4.5 years.
His appointment comes as the Punjab unit faces factionalism ahead of state assembly elections expected early next year.
Singh called for reviving democracy, describing the country’s current situation as one of “dictatorship.”
