Lisha Das Finishes Last in Commonwealth Games Para Cycling
Lisha Das is a 16‑year‑old cyclist from India who competes in a special category for athletes with mild physical impairments.
She went to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to race in a 4,000‑meter track event.
Lisha finished last, with a time of 6 minutes and 58 seconds.
The fastest riders went on to fight for gold and bronze medals.
Before the Games, Lisha said her coach and a female support staff were not included in the team, which worried her.
Even though she didn’t win, she showed great courage and hope for future competitions.
16‑year‑old Lisha Das, India’s only para‑track cyclist at the Games, finished sixth and last in the women’s C4‑C5 4,000‑m individual pursuit qualification.
She recorded a time of 6:58.000, averaging 34.450 km/h, far behind the fastest qualifiers Tara Neyland (4:45.796) and Morgan Newberry (5:06.470).
The event’s format sends the top two riders to the gold‑medal race and the third and fourth to the bronze‑medal race.
Prior to the Games, Das had raised concerns that her personal coach and a female support staff member were not initially included in the Indian contingent.
Das competes in the C5 classification, racing with a deformity in her right hand.
