Kapurthala Water Project Halted Amid Political Tensions
There's a big problem in Kapurthala, a city in Punjab.
A project to bring clean drinking water to everyone was suddenly stopped.
The project, called AMRUT-II, was supposed to build new pipes to carry water from wells to homes.
The pipes were special because they wouldn't rust and would keep the water clean.
But the work stopped, and people are upset.
They want the work to start again because they need clean water.
A man named Rana Gurjeet Singh, who is a leader in the Congress party, is very angry about this.
He says the new government, which is from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stopped the work for political reasons.
He thinks this is not fair and that the government should put the people's needs first.
The old pipes in the city are very old and broken, and sometimes the clean water mixes with dirty water, which can make people sick.
The new project was supposed to fix all this and give everyone clean water in two years.
But now, it's not clear when the work will start again.
Congress MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh condemned the sudden stoppage of the Rs 26-crore potable water supply project in Kapurthala.
Residents protested the halt, demanding immediate resumption of the project for safe drinking water.
Rana Gurjeet urged the AAP government to resume the stalled work, citing public interest and continuity in governance.
The project was sanctioned under the Centre’s AMRUT-II scheme to ensure 100% coverage of safe drinking water in urban areas.
The project aimed to replace old, corroded pipelines with new 95-km rust-proof pipes to prevent water contamination.
