Odisha Govt Orders Action Against 7 Police Officers Over Puri Stampede
Imagine a big religious parade called Rath Yatra in India.
Sadly, during this parade, too many people tried to get close to the religious carts all at once, causing a terrible accident called a stampede.
Three people lost their lives, and many others got hurt.
The government investigated why this happened and found that some police officers who were supposed to keep everyone safe didn't do their jobs properly.
Two of the main officers in charge weren't even there when the accident happened.
Because of these mistakes, the government has decided to take action against these officers and also a company that might have been involved.
They want to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
Odisha government ordered action against seven police officers and a private technology firm.
The action is a result of lapses that led to a stampede in Puri on June 29, 2024.
The stampede occurred near Shree Gundicha temple during Rath Yatra, killing three and injuring 20.
An inquiry report by Anu Garg found negligence by police officers, including the absence of two senior officers responsible for crowd management.
The inquiry confirmed dereliction of duty by the officers involved.
